The Art of Choosing Art
King & Queen Hotel Suites is home to a vast collection of local and international artwork. Every piece has been carefully chosen by the owners of the hotel. Finding the right piece of art to complement the design of the property, room décor, furnishings and colour palette was very important. Meeting the artist in person, hearing their story and working with them to tailor a piece of art to match the above has ensured the King & Queen now has a collection of art that is worthy of any international art gallery.
Here is a taste of the hotel’s art collection from some of our favourite artists:
The hotel lays claim to owning the second largest collection of Julien Deligne artwork in the world behind New York. Julien was born in 1959 in France and now lives in Marrakesh Morocco. The hotel owners first met Julien through company Blue Moon Design. They travelled to Morocco before the hotel opened to meet with the artist. An incredible collection of Moroccan and European furnishings which fill the hotel were purchased at the same time.
Jody Hope Gibbons
Jody Hope Gibbons is a New Zealand artist making contemporary art from her Matakana studio, just north of Auckland New Zealand. She has works that can be found in galleries around NZ and also has an ever changing collection at her studio. Her works range from abstract painterly works to contemporary landscapes and assemblage art.
New Plymouth locals will perhaps know Paul more for his former pizza restaurant El Condor than his artwork. The owners found out about his secret talent and Paul painted 17 incredible paintings, one per suite for display in our original hotel wing which opened in 2013.
