Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre

A cornerstone of the West End Precinct, the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery has been serving up a steady programme of contemporary art since 1970. With regularly changing exhibitions focusing on the latest art from New Zealand and around the Pacific the Govett-Brewster is a must-see destination for anyone visiting the region.

Opened in 2015, the adjoining Len Lye Centre is the home of New Zealand’s foremost international artist, kinetic sculptor and pioneering filmmaker Len Lye (1901-1980). Behind the Centre’s gleaming façade discover Lye’s groundbreaking works, as well as the stories behind them.

The Gallery offers much more than art. Regular talks and events help you explore, discover and experience what’s on exhibit, while workshops allow you to get stuck in. A stunning cinema presents regular art-house films, and the art and design shop presents a curated selection of unique design and art goods.
